What is a Living and Learning Program?

  • The Living and Learning Program at UMC is a group of first-year students who live together on the same floor of a residence hall and take the required Composition I course. By living and learning together they take part in an enhanced and streangthened first year experience at UMC.

What Classes Will I Take?

  • All students within the Living and Learning Program will be pre-registered for Composition I, a required course for all UMC students regardless of major.

Why Would I Want to be Involved With the Living and Learning Program?

  • The faculty that volunteer to teach and work with this learning community have a vested interest in meeting the needs of first-year students. The faculty work to facilitate study groups, service learning, and other student support initiatives outside of the classroom

  • To help ease your transition from high school to college.

  • You will quickly become familiar with other new students, faculty members and upperclassmen. This makes developing new friendships and relationships easier.

  • Your overall first year experience will be enhanced in every way because of this program.
